its not about beer and brats......
been reading alot lately...all sorts of stuff...an interesting interpretation of the second continental congress...and the establishment of the foundations for our government...it seems then as now that the forces that opposed each other were aligned along the lines of self enrichment...there were voices that understood the frailty of our new union ...and others that just wanted to maintain their hold on their riches and insure that the path to future riches were unobstructed...that is a very, very simple encapsulation of the book...but..
.it made me think..
.about the last decade here in the ole usa...greed and arrogance have us fighting un-winnable wars in far off nations...the banks of our country are likened to the vultures picking the last flesh from the carcass that was a healthy America...everyone is turning a blind eye to the uncontrolled cost of the... now close to half... our nation that has no health care ...with the first wave of baby boomers turning 65 and waiting for their share of social security...we have an entire class of americans claiming complete disassociation...with our government... so they are blindly ripping out the last vestiges of our national infrastructure...conservatives are being replaced by uniformed...often called the "antis"...that strike at the heart of a rightfully frightened nation...media darlings...push their respective brands of hatred and fear...from both sides of the isle...for ratings...then money...not ideals... the rich have become almost feudal in their disgust and abhorrence of all things middle class...a mere 8 percent of us hold 98 percent of the wealth...
and as things get harder...money gets harder to come by...the rich push the "trickle down economics" ...still...nearly twenty years after it was called by all...all...credible economists...the worst idea in modern history...they still keep bringing it up...a threat that if the rich don't get those tax breaks...they won't buy that second lexus...they won't be able to afford illegal yard workers...or cooks...or nannys...haven't we learned that what the rich want...is to be richer period...and if that road ...literally needed to be driven over the bodies of the non rich...they would offer petty bonuses to the weaker minds to be the first to lay down...
there is an election coming...and the choices may not be great...but they will be choices...i am old...but i remember before the republicans took a surplus to a deficit...i know that looking back does no one any good...unless you forget that ...nothing...has changed in the way the republican party operates...they are simply puppets for the rich and entitled...but they are brilliant in their ability to somehow make that appealing ...to joe the plummer...this election should be about racism...and the velvet glove we cover it with to look enlightened...a black president...a latino supreme court justice...their are millions of white people so incensed by this that they would seriously look at ...well ...just about anybody...literally...but now is the time...on a day when our best and brightest are far from home defending our liberty...on a day not for barbeques and beer...but the solemn realization that some of us have given ...everything... for our nation...the least we can do...the respectful thing to do...is to be informed...to use the things that their lives buy with at such a great cost...
