Man I have a great dog...I have had quite a few...it all started with maggie...a 1/2 sheepdog, 1/2 lab..with bad skin and a great disposition...I was not a good dog owner when I was younger...I don't know if my expectations were too high and my intelligence was too low or what.. but there was a lot of yelling and swatting and other reprehensible behavior that I now know serve no purpose with dogs.... there have been many dogs since then...lots of labs...but a few different breeds...a min pin...a beagle...a chow...all great dogs...but to be honest I like the idea of having a dog more than the responsibility of owning one...at least thats what the women in my life point out..and since it has been pointed out on more than one occasion...then it must be true...but Iam trying...to spend time and effort with our Bella...she is a lovely yellow lab...smart and funny...she was standoffish as a pup....not one to curl up in your lap...when we picked her, she sat at the end of the kennel looking at us...I told the beautiful girl that she was a little slow...but she insisted that she was not slow...but in fact picking us or at least deciding whether or not to run the fuck away and wait for a better offer...it proved true...she has never been a dog in lap type...but a dog by the foot...or under the foot..or under your legs while you're sleeping dog...
the beautiful girl took her to obedience classes...where she was promptly held back...it seems she distracted all the other puppies by running around wildly inciting all to follow, bark and play...She eventually passed puppy school and can sit, beg, lay down and stay...sometimes...well occasionally... but last month she did something that no dog of mine had ever done...we walked around our block off leash...she and I ...civilized...walking next to each other...no yelling or screaming or chasing...it was way cool...now it was pointed out by the beautiful girl that there were no dogs or children to distract her...but I pooh-poohed her notion and claimed that moment for Bella and I ...my great dog!
